Reestablishing the Understanding of Biblical Discipleship

In the Great Commission Jesus commanded us to make disciples. Yet few people in our churches have ever been personally discipled. For many years I believed the church was fulfilling this commission by preaching good sermons and having special classes for their people. As good as these things are I do not believe they fulfill what Jesus meant when He said, “make disciples.” Jesus was the master example of making disciples. He invested His ministry life in twelve individuals. Yes, Jesus taught the multitudes, but He spent most of His time with the twelve. When He was finished He put the church in their hands, ascended into Heaven, and sent the Holy Spirit. The church did well because Jesus made disciples. He commanded us to go do the same.

Convinced of the above, in 1995 I began personally discipling individuals. Using what I believe God gave me for these first disciples, I compiled a discipleship manual in 1997 entitled, The Making of a Complete Disciple. It is a 24 lesson, 112 page manual to be used by those who want to be obedient to Jesus’ command to go and make disciples. To help those I discipled to disciple others, I made 24 recorded sessions for them to listen to. I recorded them as though I was discipling someone.

Over the years we have heard that this manual and these recordings have found their way into several countries– USA, Canada, UK, Mexico, Africa, Spain, Mongolia, and India. People are using them to begin discipleship training among their people. Amazing. Praise God! My heart’s desire has been to offer this material free of charge to anyone in the world who wants to get serious about discipleship. Now we can! Remember, Jesus did not command us to build churches. He said He would build His church. Nor did He command us to build buildings. But He did command us to make disciples. It is time we obeyed.
